Through this Episode, you will learn 1) How finding small joyful moments can lead to big changes during midlife. 2) Finding one thing to be glad about each day helps with mindfulness and positive outlook. Being called a Pollyanna is a compliment, not an insult. Veronica Francis is an author, marketing professional and owner of the “Glad Shop” in Littleton, New Hampshire. Growing up working in her family’s amusement park, Veronica developed a love of laughter. She wrote a book titled “Circus Towne” about her adventures growing up in this circus themed amusement park. In 1994, when small business resources were hard to access, Veronica joined with other women entrepreneurs and founded the organization WREN - The Women’s Rural Entrepreneurial Network - to provide networking opportunities for women entrepreneurs. A few years later, she started her own digital marketing company in Littleton, New Hampshire. Littleton is best known as the hometown of the author of “Pollyanna”, the world-famous character whose very name inspires gladness and optimism. Veronica, always the optimist, joined the community effort to celebrate Pollyanna and in 2019 opened a Pollyanna themed retail shop in downtown Littleton. Veronica can be found managing her retail shop, promoting gladness through the online Pollyanna Glad Club, and speaking at events.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a time to raise awareness, act, and support each other. Each year in the United States, about 240,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women and about 2,100 in men. The risk for women of developing breast cancer at some point during their lifetime is approximately 13 percent. However, there is so much you can do to prevent cancer and treat it should it occur. On today’s show I’m talking with Dr. Michael Karlfeldt author of A Better Way to Treat Cancer about integrative medicine’s role in the treatment and prevention of cancer, especially breast cancer. You’ll learn what cancer is and more importantly how to prevent it. Plus, Dr. Karlfeldt share the cutting edge techniques he’s using in his center to treat cancer. What a great conversation with this power pack trio Dr. Lucy Smith, Dr. Avery Hoenig and DR. Jamie Wilson Watch the complete episode and learn the other dimensions of Midlife. You will learn : 1) Midlife is a time of significant emotional and psychological development - in short, it matters (even if the psychological aspects haven’t been well-researched yet) 2) The most powerful skill/strategy that we can offer is self-compassion. At a time in life that so many women feel tempted to focus their self-care efforts on self-improvement (botox, diet plans, exercise regimens), it is especially important to develop self-compassion. Everything that self-improvement promises is ultimately accessible through self-compassion. 3) Regardless of what skills or tools you have, the “work” (i.e., reorienting, reckoning, reclaiming, rejoicing) has to be done in community. We believe that the most significant transformation occurs in connection with others.
